Wonderful old growth forest. We came in on the east side, and explored in and around to the north of Hermit’s Peak around the 8,000 ft elevation. In addition, we were treated to the first snow fall of the season on Mon Oct 9th, 2017
Conveniently close to the heart of Santa Fe, there are many trails for hiking/biking in the summer. Winter has downhill and cross country skiing, as well as hiking and snowshoeing. Camping is available year-round. A little bit of something for everyone.
My wife and I take the dog up every weekend, and we have yet to get bored.
I love the National Forest. over the Hyde Memorial State Park. At Hyde Memorial, Being Of the African American Male. You Will be Treated Like a Run Away Slave no Real Respect You Have to Show The Ranger What is in Your Bags or Tote you'll get seen a few times a day at Hyde memorial Sad But True Blacks Are Treated so bad at Hyde. In The National Forest Its Not Like That it's Like your A Human in the National Forest. Not in Hyde memorial state park. I am just saying how i was treated
Deception Peak is my jam. Use the Santa fe hiking guide to learn more about trails. The lookout spot far up the road toward the ski area is great at night - best when sun sets and lightning combine for great long exposure shots.
Well maintained trails and bathrooms on the Windsor Trail. Took a hike to Lake Katherine. It is easy to loose the trail once you get to the boulder fields, but we were able to find it again easily.
