This came up as highly recommended, which got my hopes up that it wasn't the typical hotel restaurant/bar, but I was let down. If you can go during happy hour, I'm sure it would be fine, but this was the worst of about six different places we went while we were in Santa Fe. Avoid it.
This was our hotel's bar/lounge. They did seem to have a pretty decent happy hour, but we were there late night. I got a blood orange margarita for $13. It was about half the size of a normal margarita. It tasted fine, except there didn't seem to be any tequila in it. I hesitantly asked if they could remake it, and the very nice waitress said it would come out the same, so she suggested a double. I decided on a double house. Same size, and I expected it would be maybe three or four dollars more for the extra shot, maybe even five. Nope, same cost as two house margaritas. $18.
Yes, Wow, Amazing! Cool Happy Hour Staff. Rochelle is the bomb
Upscale lounge / bar adjacent to the El Dorado Hotel. Known for their Happy Hour: M-F 4 to 7. The Happy Hour food is excellent, if the drinks occasionally leave something to be desired. Chips, salsa and guacamole are excellent and generous in serving size. The spinach-artichoke dip is also very good. The green chile Kobe sliders are exactly what you would expect. House margaritas and well drinks are generally heavy on mixers and ice, light on alcohol. All of the HH wine selections are Robert Mondavi. If the difference between a lounge and a bar is that the former has nicer furniture and an elegant design aesthetic, then the Agave is a perfect lounge. The servers are all efficient, if sometimes a little harried. Occasionally, there is an unobtrusive, but welcome, classical guitarist. It gets a little over-crowded at times, so it's recommended to get there early or go on a slower night.
A friend was in town and we went for happy hour BEWARE we both fell very ill from food poisoning and know it was from the guacamole that we both ate!!! Very disappointed,
Also, when we arrived, the waitress, who again, was very nice, casually asked if we'd like "some chips or guac or salsa or something like that." We declined, since we'd already eaten, but later found out they would have been $10.
