Great system overall! I've always had positive experiences using the system. Friendly drivers and most parts of town are served by a bus line. The hours of operation and route frequency could definitely use improvement though, especially on weekends.
Drivers don't know their own stops and no intercom or driver announces any stops.
However, when a bus is early, you'll likely miss it if you're used to the schedule. Then you have to wait up to 30 minutes or longer for the next bus (15 if using the Cerrillos bus). If it's on the weekend, you'll have to wait up to an hour for the next bus, which means you'll be really late if you're heading to work. Being an hour late is a lot worse than being 5-15 minutes late, which is why I'd rather the bus be late than early.
Buses 1/2 an hour late. Or early, hard to tell. No Sunday service for some lines.
If I take the bus, I plan to arrive with 1 1/2 hour spare time for a trip that takes 10 minutes to drive.
(I suppose they assume since it's a small town no one will say anything?)
While many bus drivers are nice, there is so much wrong with this system that, if you don't need to take it, don't. Drunks on route 2, drivers who are rude or neglecting of their duties, and unconventional schedules.
I don't really have any complaints about the drivers. Most of them have been nice to me for the most part, although one driver was ahead of schedule once and sped up when he saw me crossing the street to get to a stop and almost ran over me. And that "ahead of schedule" thing happens way too often. If a bus is late, I understand. I'm okay with a bus being 5-15 minutes late. Any more than that, they should send a replacement, or a van, which they don't seem to do very often anymore.
What can I say? If you live in Santa Fe, get a bicycle. If you can't ride a bicycle, you'll have to move to another town.
No google maps connection.
It's true that drivers drive past people waiting at stops as if they feel like it, then stop at the next stop and let young high people on without paying.
Dispatch is a joke. If you call to complain about anything, be it drivers, early or late buses, they act like they don't care. They ask to if you want to "file a report" or complaint. I doubt anything else is done. I once stopped a driver heading the opposite direction that I was headed, and told him that the bus heading inbound was extremely early. He called dispatch and let them know and they told him where the bus was and that it was not early. He told them that there was no way they could've been at that location already if they were on schedule. There was a pause and the dispatch asked the bus to stop for a while because they were ahead of schedule. It didn't help me any though, because they had already passed me up.
Here's the thing. Love this system. But this morning trying to board the route 2 bus at about 10:05am I brought my bike bc buses don't go to where I'm going. That's fine. But I can't fit my bike tires into the rack. Thats understandable. Mountain bikes are pretty big. After 3 tries, the driver honks at me and I ask him if I can bring the bike on the bus with me because it won't fit. He barks "No!" At me as if I've offended him and shuts the door in my face. I just think that bike racks that include all bikes are needed, or some drivers with human decency are needed.
