Just across East de Vargas Street is the oldest church in the continental US, the San Miguel Mission.
It's interesting because it's old, but it's not much to see really. There are two rooms, full of mostly tacky decorations and some very old stuff that might or might not be original to the house. The rest of it is gift shop. I enjoyed most seeing the outside - a simple but beautiful structure.
Very fascinating. I'm surprised this underrated historical site does not get more notoriety. I just happened to walk by it going from Downtown to the Kakawa House. Definitely stop in and be generous with the donation, hopefully this place will be preserved for years to come. Right across from San Miguel Mission/Church.
Go for the gift shop, staff is very helpful and friendly. Wished the house had a little more history available. Fun for a quick pop in and break from gallery hopping.
A quick five minutes of your time! The house is only two rooms, with a gift shop bigger than the house! The lady there (Barbara) was very knowledgeable on what all the native goods meant and symbolized. Nice place to support!
Glad we stopped in. The woman at the gift shop was very informed about the history of the place. Nice piece of Santa Fe history.
