Once in a great while your meal at a restaurant is like a poem, from the first bite to the last, the food rhymes delicious flavors and delights on every level. The Pantry for lunch on a busy Monday, sitting at the bar in front of the serving window as plate after beautiful plate of delicious food emerged from the kitchen. The servers performed a sort of casual ballet, balancing multiple plates and bowls on their arms while laughing and carrying on several conversations with coworkers and cooks. I had a combo plate that was the very archetype a classic New Mexican food: a crispy meat taco, cheese broiled over the shell, a cheese enchilada and a stuffed Poblano, all smothered in sweet smoky red sauce and melted cheese. Every bite was a joy. Also the rice and beans were just exceptional. You know a place is great when they take pride in rice and beans and don't treat it as an afterthought. Also the brisket tacos are overstuffed with tender seasoned beef, enough for two. And the freshly made, piping hot soapapilla was a perfect desert. Service was friendly, efficient and fast. I could see from where I sat that the serving station was spotless and organized. There was not a single fault I could find with this beautiful iconic restaurant. Just a sweet poem of a meal all the way through.
This place, wow! We spent a few days in Santa Fe this month & ate at numerous highly recommended restaurants. THIS ONE TAKES THE CAKE! The food was AMAZING! I was adventurous & ordered the tortilla burger, yep. And it was impressive. I can't say enough good about the experience here. We'll definitely eat there every time we're in Santa Fe!
Pleasant and effective staff. ABSOLUTELY make The Pantry a stop while in Santa Fe, or your 'go to' spot if you're a local!!!
We tried this restaurant due to it's high popularity and high reviews everywhere. The service was amazing, every employee who helped us went above and beyond to take care of us. I was surprised at what the food left to be desired though since there were such high ratings. We ordered New Mexican dishes, and nothing was bad but nothing struck me as really good either. We've had our share of New Mexican food in the state and there are some places that just blow you away and this food was just average. It is not an expensive restaurant but I could also name a few New Mexican places where you get more "bang for your buck" too. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but also probably isn't someplace we would say we need to go again!
The food was okay. The servers were really nice. They welcomed us in as friends - they definitely try their best to accommodate and make you feel welcome. The Frito pie was good but we didn't really care for the Mexican hamburger. The green chili stew tasted good. The French toast was a little over cooked. There wasn't enough green chili smothered on the Mexican burrito and the meat was over cooked.
Yummy! Tortilla burger is so flavorful and crispy, not greasy curly fries! Green here is spicy and for the first time in red/green experience, red won! Combination plate, very good! Taco stood out and enchilada second runner up, Chile a distant third on this visit.
