I have been a patient of Dr.Baten's for many years. He is very knowledgeable and has a no-nonsense manner that I appreciate.
DO NOT go to Michael Baten! He is unprofessional and is a joke to his area of expertise. I was greatly disappointed in his approach and felt my husbands visit was a waste of his time. Michael portrayed a lack of empathy or sympathetic understanding and "brushed" off my husbands pain as though it was an inconvenience to him. He did not recommend or assist us in anyway to understand our situation further. Do NOT go to Michael Baten!
I used to go to Dr Baten but when I needed an emergency refill on a prescription that is vital to my functioning like a normal human being (narcolepsy) due to my insurance company screwing me over his receptionist kept telling me he'd get to it, but he never did. He even went home. I had to call in to work because I couldn't even drive safely. He never got back to me about it. Never going here again.
I have been to many neurologists and had good ones and bad ones--mostly the latter! It's an odd field...I don't really understand all the negative reviews from the various patients. They either have no experience with neurologists or else are just annoying people! Baten is excellent and knows exactly what he is talking about. True he doesn't suffer fools gladly but I'd rather get brisk, intelligent care from a smart doctor who can be brusque than have my hand held by a warm and fuzzy idiot.
In 2004, I had an issue for which my gynecologist suggest I see Dr. Baten. After performing 3 "mickey mouse" tests such as checking my knee reflex using a rubber hammer, Dr. Baten led me into his office and to tell me that I had multiple sclerosis. Every time I tried to suggest to Baten that I get more in-depth testing to make sure his diagnosis was correct, he would interrupt me by repeating "You have multiple sclerosis" as if I hadn't heard him the first time. THEN, he had me get an MRI at the clinic in Santa Fe which cost $4,000. (Baten probably is likely a co-owner/partner of the clinic.) Naturally, I did not have MS, but Baten did get my $4,000. This guy is a quack from the get-go. And I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy.
